About This Performance
Inspired by Impressionism in art, composer Maurice Ravel captured mood and atmosphere through dazzling interplay of musical colour. In celebration of his 150th Birthday, this concert will feature the French composer’s string quartet – a masterwork of the Impressionist style, juxtaposed alongside a masterpiece of the classical style, Haydn’s Op. 76, No. 2
Approx. 60 Minutes with no Intermission
About This Series
It’s no surprise that most musicians reply “chamber music!” when asked about their favourite music to play. Written for a living room “chamber” rather than a concert hall, it’s music written for a cozy gathering of friends and neighbours that are close enough to hear the softest whisper. Chamber music requires each player to shrug off convention, express their unique voice and make music spontaneously, responding to each other and to the audience.
