Duo 46 featured in MusiCurate
An in-depth interview with our very own guitar and violin duo, Duo46
Dr. Matthew Gould, SSMC faculty member and SSO guitarist, and and Beth Ilana Schneider-Gould, SSO concertmaster and SSMC faculty, are featured as Duo46 in the July issue of MusiCurate magazine! Check out the full interview for some beautiful insights into this musical duo.
We are very fortunate to have both of them as members of our musical community. They will be together on stage for our Concerto for Three Guitars Main Stage Series concert on April 3, 2027, and Beth will be featured in our February 20th Main Stage concert – Vivaldi in Buenos Aires ~ events not to be missed.
Selected questions and answers from the interview:
What was your first project together?
We quickly ran through the standard repertoire for violin and guitar and realized there was a wealth of little-known twentieth-century duets waiting to be discovered. This led to our inaugural recording project, FM1: Homage to the 1950s, which showcased the earliest concert music from the twentieth century.
As a couple who also perform together, do you feel the musical interplay between you occurs more naturally than other duos?
Absolutely! Our chemistry while playing together has always been intuitive. Interestingly, during rehearsals, recording sessions or performances, we barely have any of the usual couple quarrels; our lively discussions tend to surface when we’re not making music! Contrary to many couples we know who argue while playing, we find our greatest couples therapy occurs through music-making.
“Her soloistic flair was exactly what the guitar world needed.”
