Orchestra at the Oscars

Jamie Arrowsmith leads our 44th season with a musical journey to the Oscars.  Featuring selections from West Side Story, highlights from Jurassic Park, and Fellowship of the Ring, overture to Don Giovanni and many more great classics that will be sure to please music lovers of all ages.
Sopranos, Pamela Teed and Deanne Wells-Hunt join the orchestra to lend their enchanting voices in this memorable start to the season.

Holiday Magic
December 7th, 2019

Revel in the holiday season with our Traditional Holiday concert filled with delightful seasonal classics, guaranteed to boost your holiday spirit.  The Sudbury Youth Orchestra joins the SSO onstage to perform holiday favourites including, Evening Prayer from Hansel and Gretel, Fantasia on Greensleeves, and Dances from the Nutcracker.  Don’t forget to bring your voices and join our orchestra performance with our holiday sing along!

Mostly Mozart

The new year brings forth iconic and well known symphonies to the second half of our season. March features the music of Mozart, beginning with overture to The Impressario and ending with his most powerful symphonic creation, Symphony no 41. Also featured is Mozart’s nemesis Salieri with his popular 26 variations on La Folia.

Principal Cellist Dobrochna Zubek makes her guest artist debut with the SSO performing Canadian Chan Ka Nin’s Soulmate, a graceful and moving melody describing love through music.

Beethoven’s Legacy

In the history of Western Music, Beethoven was one of the most widely known and influential composers. We honor the great works of Beethoven with his notable piece Symphony no 7. Also included are composers from the Romantic Era, Von Suppe’s Light Calvary and Brahms Hungarian Dances.

Emma Pennell, winner of our 2019 Young Performers Competition will perform Strauss’s “Mein Herr Marquis (From Fledermaus).

Bohemian Nostalgia

The SSO honours the universally loved Czech composer Antonin Dvorak featuring his popular Symphony no 8, based on his inspiration of Bohemian folk music. Smetana’s The Bartered Bride Overture and Dvorak’s Slavonic Dances round out our 44th season finale.
Canadian female composer Jocelyn Morlock also shares this end of season line up with her composition Nostalgia a beautiful and melancholy piece filled with sweet sadness and sentimental haze.

Symphony Crawl

Downtown Sudbury

Join the Sudbury Symphony Orchestra, local businesses and Sudbury area musicians once again, as we host a fulfilled day of music, shopping and treats! This event is a great opportunity to enjoy a diverse group of local Sudbury musicians and enjoy our wonderful businesses in the downtown core.  Tickets will go on sale at a later date.

Holiday Family Matinée

A wonderful experience for the entire family! Join your SSO at 2:00pm, on December 7th, for a special one-hour Matinée performance.  This special holiday concert is a great way to introduce a younger audience to music, spark their imagination and experience the orchestra in a less formal setting.  Join us in the lobby for fun, engaging and interactive activities before the concert.  Special pricing makes this event affordable for the whole family.
